Plans to expand Hospice of West Alabama’s (HOWA) grief support services came to fruition in November of 2007, as HOWA unveiled its newest initiative, “The Pat Faucett Sunrise Center.” It is home to HOWA’s annual Camp Daybreak. The facility houses a variety of activities and is available as a free meeting place for support groups in the area. With three bedrooms on the second of its three floors, limited overnight accommodations are also available for families of patients receiving care in HOWA’s 15-bed inpatient facility.

The Sunrise Center is located on the campus of the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center in a beautiful old home that previously served as a residence for the VA Hospital’s Director. The house is across the street, a brief walk from the HOWA inpatient facility. The Tuscaloosa Homebuilders Association provided renovation of the facility on a purely volunteer basis, providing materials and labor for remodeling. The furnishings are being provided through gifts in memory of former patient, Rebecca Brown, from Gordo, Alabama.
